Schools & Daycares

Our Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy teams visit daycares and schools to help children gain independence while strengthening fine motor coordination, sensory motor, and visual motor skills.

About OT & PT in Schools & Daycares

Pediatric Occupational Therapy in a school setting supports children in developing essential life skills, including fine motor coordination, independence with daily activities, visual perceptual skills, sensory processing, and social interaction. Therapy is delivered through engaging, age-appropriate activities designed to meet each child’s individual needs. With flexible scheduling options, sessions can be conveniently tailored to fit each facility's schedule.

Pediatric Physical Therapy in a school setting focuses on improving a child’s strength, balance, coordination, and overall mobility through fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate activities. Therapy sessions are designed to integrate flexibly into your child’s routine while supporting progress toward important developmental milestones.

How to Receive Services in your school or daycare?

Obtaining a Referral

Your child’s educator or classroom teacher may request that our office complete a screening to determine whether your child would benefit from skilled Physical Therapy and/or Occupational Therapy services. If the screening indicates that services are appropriate, the teacher will refer you to our clinic.

At that point, you will need to obtain a referral from your child’s physician or nurse practitioner for the recommended services. Once the referral is received, our office staff will contact you to review your insurance benefits. After all initial insurance benefits have been verified, your child will be placed on our waitlist. The assigned therapist will then reach out to you to schedule your child’s evaluation.

Evaluation

The evaluation will take place at your child’s school or daycare. We understand how challenging it can be to access services while working full time; therefore, caregivers are not required to be present during the evaluation. However, you are welcome to attend if you choose.

During the evaluation, we will assess your child’s developmental skills, peer interactions, and engagement with teachers. We will also discuss your child’s goals to determine how our services can best support their progress.

Your therapist will contact you to review your child’s prior medical history, discuss the recommended frequency of visits, and provide a detailed home exercise program. This program will be designed for educators and teachers to implement in order to support your child’s interaction with age-matched peers at their facility.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can my child receive outpatient services while also receiving your services?

Yes.

We value collaboration with other providers in our community and believe that a team-based approach leads to the best outcomes for children. We recognize the importance of utilizing varied therapeutic approaches; therefore, we will request a signed release of information to allow us to communicate and collaborate with your child’s medical team.

Can my child receive services at ASD or MSBSD?

No.

The Anchorage School District (ASD) and The Mat-Su Borough School District (MSBSD) does not permit outside therapy providers to deliver services within their schools. If your child requires school-based services within these districts, please speak with your child’s teacher or school staff to learn more about the services available through the district.
